The Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation was created by Congress in 1986 to help ensure this Nation has the continuing talent pool of researchers in the natural sciences, engineering and mathematics, that it needs to maintain its global competitiveness, by identifying and supporting a significant pool of highly-qualified undergraduates. The importance of this mission has only grown since 1986 as the role of STEM fields in society has grown.
Every year the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation reviewers identify hundreds of outstanding and highly-creative undergraduates who should be recognized and supported, but are not due to limited funds. The Barry Goldwater Educational Support Fund was created to provide an essential opportunity through which foundations and individual donors can donate to increase the number of Goldwater Scholarships awarded to promising students. Furthermore, the Barry Goldwater Educational Support Fund also provides funding for the activities of the Goldwater Scholars Community.
