Overview

The Goldwater Community is composed of three inter-related groups, the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation (Goldwater Foundation), the Goldwater Scholar Community (GSC), and the Barry Goldwater Educational Support Fund (BGESF). The Goldwater Foundation was established in 1986 by an act of the United State Congress in order provide scholarships to undergraduate students for the promotion of excellence in science and mathematics. Every years since that time, the Foundation has named a cohort of scholars that now includes over 8000 individuals. In 2018, the Goldwater Scholar Community was created by Goldwater Scholars to build resources and community for all individuals named a Goldwater Scholar. The BGESF is a 501c3 non-profit whose mission is to increase the funding available to name additional scholars annually, as there are many qualified individuals who are not named scholars due to financial constraints. The BGESF also seeks to financially support the GSC programming.
